Dioic conifer with different habit, depending on the variety. The deciduous leaves are fan-shaped, light green in spring, dark green in summer and bright yellow in autumn. The flowers are not too showy, while the female plants produce pulpy and strong-smelled fruits. It does not have particular requirements as of soil, but prefers deep, acid or alkaline soils. Withstands calcareous soils and pollution.
